    Automate E-Mails (Outlook Express 6)

Hi folks, I'm not used to doing anything with outlook express except sending standard e-mails, but I have created .pdf files from an access application which I need to run and send out to the same people every day. The file names change every day to include the date. Can I automate Outlook Express to look for these or could I if the name stayed the same every day???? Most grateful for any help. <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15>

I don't think Outlook Express offers much in the way of automation - there is no exposed object model to work with in VBA.

It *is* possible to automate Outlook to send e-mails with attachments from Access - but since you are posting here, and since you were already pointed towards Outlook automation in the thread starting at <!post=e-mail (Access 97) (post 204730), 204730>e-mail (Access 97) (post 204730)<!/post>, I suppose you don't want to do that.

There is also a utility called sendview_rps from Reference Point Software that can be used to send e-mails on a network without an e-mail program. Don't know if that is of any use to you.

Re: Automate E-Mails (Outlook Express 6)

Hello Hans - you pop up everywhere! No we have decided not to use the Access SendObject - the user has decided she wants to generate and open each .pdf file before deciding whether or not to send the reports on, and I did a bit of work yesterday generating some of these for her. Problem is that although she requires these .pdf files on a daily basis, she doesnt always want to transmit to each customer (the files deal with pricing). Sooner or later I'm sure she's going to get lazy and not want to do this, and as there are a great many of these individual reports, I wondered if there was an easy way to do it in Outlook to save me writing wodges of code in my database. Thanks for your help as always. <img src=/S/rose.gif border=0 alt=rose width=15 height=15>

will the pdf name always be the same? You could create command line to send it if the file name is always the same. slipstick has instructions on sending scheduled messages with attachments - Sue's method uses task scheduler, but the command line works in shortcuts or on the run line.

Since the file name changes in a very predictable fashion, you could write a VBScript that would put together the command line code (whatever that is) with the calculated file name, and then "run" that command.
