    Track Changes Screen Tips (Word2000)

Does any know how to permanently remove the comments from a document that contains track changes without accepting the changes?

    Sally,

When you say "comments" do you mean real comments i.e. postits inserted using Insert, Comment, or do you mean that your readers have inserted text into the document that are comments rather than changes?

    Hi Liz,

I mean the screen tips that come up to say who and when the change was made. I know I can stopped them being viewed by turning off screen tips in Tools|View but I want to get rid of them for good.

    Sally,

The information is associated with the change made and until you either accept the change or reject the change that author and date information will live with the change and the document. So assuming that you are not ready to accept the changes yet your only option is to turn of Scrren Tips as you suggested . Unless anyone else knows better?

I'll second Liz's comment. Furthermore, the Author name is a "Read-only" property that cannot be blanked out using a macro. You can convert the tracked changes to static direct text formatting. For a macro that does that, see <!post=Post #173394,173394>Post #173394<!/post> or <!post=Post #138248,138248>Post #138248<!/post>. (I forget the difference between these!)

    Sally

Turning off screen tips is one option, here is another Tools Options and go to the Track Changes tab remove the tick from Use balloons in Print and Web layout , this removes the balloons but allows you to view the tracked changes as in previous versions of Word

    Hope this helps
