    Date Update Automatically (Word 2000)

I would to have a date updated automatically when I open a file, but when it's saved, the date will become permanent, meaning it won't update if the file is opened.

    Thanks,
    Deb

Re: Date Update Automatically (Word 2000)

To do this, don't click Insert > Date and time ...
Rather click Insert > Field... and select the CreateDate option

This will then store the date the file was created - which doesn't change.
If this field is used in a template (.DOT) - then each new file created from the template will be correctly set with the date of its creation.

(There are other useful date fields such as date printed and date saved - both useful in footers for audit tracking.)

Re: Date Update Automatically (Word 2000)

That will help and if I can't do what I really want, that will work. What I want to do is every time the file is edited, it goes to the current days date and will be saved with that date. If it's just opened but not edited, I want the date to stay the same.

    Is this possible?

Sounds like { SAVEDATE } will do what you want.
