Language

I just tried to look at a post and a page popped up saying my language will be changed to Indonesian.
I checked my profile to discover that this is so. Even the page in which I'm writing this post is in Indonesian.
Can anyone explain this and how do I change back to English?

Cheers

Rob

If you have the flag bar visible, click on the mixed US/UK flag. Otherwise, click on Flagbar Toggle. In the dropdown list with caption Pilih Bahasa, select English; it's the first entry, you'll have to scroll up to see it. Then click Submit.

Re: Language

Rob,
It happened to me also, a few months back. (See Hans post) It's easy to accidently hit the flagbar toggle, but it sure does snap open your eyeballs and make you wonder if you moved to a new country or something.

Re: Language

The easiest way to avoid this in the future is to use the Flagbar Toggle link and turn the flagbar off where it says Show Language-Switcher FlagBar. It'll also speed up the lounge for you ever-so slightly

Thanks for everyone's contributions. It certainly was a strange experience for a while.

Re: Language

Have you discovered some of the languages you can change to on Google's preferences page? Swedish Chef (Bork Bork Bork) takes some getting used to, but Elmer Fudd is my favourite.

I don't think I've ever seen Pig Latin in its written form. It is definitely easier to assimiilate as a spoken language!

I ended up having to use Elmer Fudd as a kind of Rosetta Stone to find my way back to English once I started browsing around the choices. Thank God the truly alien languages such as Klingon left the language names as they last appeared, or I'd never have found my way back to civilization.

If you really want to impress, you could change your clock to display in Roman Numerals with a Latin tooltip!

Re: Language

There is a "Google in English" link, which appears to be active, and in English, no matter what language has been selected.

"Hacker" is a strange looking one.

Re: Language

Oboy! That was scary!! I don't know where or how I managed it, but while looking for your "Google in English" link (which I never did find, btw) I managed to change my settings to the Swedish Chef, and it stuck. I just spent a panicked 15 minutes or so learning "Swedish Chef" Talk about learning a language by immersion!!

I did eventually get back my English settings, but don't ask me how. A word of warning -- don't change any settings from the "language tools" link. I think that's where I went wrong. Or maybe not...
