    xp explorer status bar (xp pro)

    hi --

    i like the status bar at the bottom of explorer windows, but windows xp
    defaults to no status bar ... is there a way to keep that little @#$!% on
    for default?

    Yes, I know a fix, if you're up to a small registry modification. One of the most perplexing things about XP is its tendency for "forgetting" settings like yours, and window sizes, locations, content selection (like tiles v. icons) and so on. I learned some time ago, that if you open REGEDIT and work your way down to DELETE the following two keys:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRo amBagMRU]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRo amBags]

    WinXP will then remember any settings you pick, including the status bar, which was one of MY gripes also! The problem is, you better save a note of the two keys above, 'cause it'll happen again, sometime, when you least expect it. I just recently had to un-install and re-install my Palm PDA software and dammit, XP forgot all my window settings AGAIN. Pain in the butt!
