    read-only folder (XP Home)

I have an Access db that I want to share with my laptop when I'm on the road. I have saved the db to CD, but it keeps coming up as a read-only file even when I un-check the read-only box. I can read the existing db from the laptop, but I can't make any changes or additions to the file. Is there a simple solution? I'm a pretty basic user with limited experiance.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

As soon as you put a file on a CDR, the Read only flag gets set.

When you copy it to your HD, you have to manually reset the Read-Only flag.

    That's the only way to do it I'm afraid. <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>

    Thanks for your reply Bryan!

    I am using a CDRW and the file remains in read-only even if I uncheck the box. <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15>

Read-write speed on your CD-RW is not enough for MS Acceess to treat it as "writable". The workaround is: copy your database file to your hard drive and open it from there. After you finish working with database copy it back to CD-RW, replacing the old file.

Most back ups will default as READ ONLY

FIX place a macro in the Auto_Open to set this default to false
