    File Save Path (XL2000)

I have a user (98SE / XL2000) who is experiencing intermittent problems when saving an Excel workbook. When the SaveAs dialog opens, the Save In: path is shown as OLK1234. The full path is C:WINDOWSTemporary Internet FilesOLK1234. I verified that his default path is C:My Documents.

We opened up the Temporary Internet Files folder and there was no OLK1234 folder visible. Doing a search on OLK1234 showed this folder in C:WINDOWSTemporary Internet Files. We checked the folder settings and it was selected to show all, but OLKxxx was not visible. I deleted OLK1234 from within the search results pane. We tried again to save and the path shown was OLK5678.

I did a search here for File Save Paths and found <!post=xlStartUp Post from JohnBF,116833>xlStartUp Post from JohnBF<!/post>. Running this showed nothing unusual, no OLKxxxx in any path.

    I am confused... <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Thanks in advance for any assistance, advice, direction, asprin.

That would appear to the temporary location for files which are received as Outlook Attachments. It's a SWAG, but can you ascertain that this user isn't forgetting to save files to a different path when they are OL Attachments? (I frequently work on Attachments that I have opened direct in OL, but have to remember to save them to an appropriate location or risk losing my work.)

The file in question is in fact an OL attachment. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>

My assumption was (yes, I know) that regardless, the save path would be what ever was set in the Default File Location field on the Options General tab.
Personnaly, I have not run into this, or maybe not paid close enough attention when working with attachments.
I usually save attachments or anything downloaded to the desktop, then move or save the item to wherever.

Thanks for the assist in pulling my head out.....

Unfortunately not, and I also wish it was, as it has cost me dear a few times. Excel thinks that you really really want to save that file in that temporary OL Attachmnet holding location where Excel finds it.
