    Payroll withholdings (Excel 97)

In setting up a payroll calculation sheet, I need to create the US percentage withholding calculation. That calculation is based on a variety of factors, beginning with the filing status, number of exemptions, etc. I was wondering: someone, somewhere probably does have this stuff already done. I am actively looking, but if anyone could provide a link or file, that would be nice. Otherwise I'll just have to re-invent the wheel. Not unheard of. Thanks and Happy New Year to All!

    Check out www.irs.gov/forms/pubs/0,,id=10827,00.html
At the bottom of this page they give all of the charts. I'm sure you can contact them and ask if there is a downloadable version of these. I know "north of the border" we can download this information and update it each year.

No, and I could not find the 2003 tables in HTML, which would enable you to drop them into Excel. (A couple of years ago I actually complained to the IRS webmaster about their use of TIFF and PDF for publications making it difficult to extract the tables for spreadsheet use and they told me to go away.) Here's the 2003 tables and here's the entire circular E for 2003, both in PDF.

    Got a scanner?

I'm no help at all, am I?

Further to my whining, here, at the bottom of the webpage, you'll find what appear to be links to the 2002 withholding tables, but if you open a specific table it's a <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> GIF! Oy, vey!

It's as I suspected. Nobody seems to have done this. No wonder: so many services have them and you can do it by hand, You might hope those business-oriented websites would have developed a free download of the table as a sales tool. (Hint) I'll develop my own bloated and convoluted set of calculations. This is going to be ugly. Thanks to all.

If you do all the hard work, I'm sure someone will be grateful if you can post it here for future reference (I don't have to worry about payroll stuff myself). Sometime soon I'll post the US individual tax rate scheds for 2002 (and 03 if they are gazetted) in Excel.

Hre's the easy part of the 2003 tables. Please double check, as I manually entered them. The format isn't an exact duplicate of the official tables.

    Thanks for the effort. I will post what I come up with. <img src=/S/salute.gif border=0 alt=salute width=15 height=20>
