    Missing My Documents Folder

The c:My Documents folder is visible from c: in Windows Explorer, but when I am in Word 97 and select File, Open, and select c:, there is no My Documents folder showing. I can open a document from Windows Explorer, select File, Save As, and back up to My Documents folder, but once I back up to c:, again there is no folder showing for My Documents. What gives?

I know this may sound a little strange...

What happens if you go to Start/Settings and turn the Active Desktop on/off (View as Web Page) and then back again?

If you go to File/Save As in Word does My Documents now display?

I, too, have EXCACT same trouble and can not seem to find the answer. Tried ACTIVE DESKTOP on and off (as suggested), no help. This trouble is MS-Office 97 with SR-2a, Windows 95, Ver. B on Toshiba 550CDT laptop. The "My Documents" folder also does NOT show up under Windows Explorer "FIND" files/folders window.

Would certainly appreciate an answer if anyone has one. Thanks a whole bunch :-)

    Hi cspiker,

If you right-click the My Documents folder and select Properties is Hidden turned on in the Attributes section?

    Bam,
NO, "Hidden" attribute is NOT turned on, nor are any of the attributes. Thanks for your input, waiting for more (if any). Tried scouring the WEB for others with this trouble and, so far, found none. Compared my laptop with my desktop (same version of Office) and could not discern any differences.
    Do you more ideas? Hope so. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 width=15 height=15>

Save As with an odd filename and then do a search for the filename. I suspect your My Documents folder is located in C:WinNTProfilesusername... or similar

So far no. My first suggestion to you and the original poster was in reference to a small bug I came across in Office 97 on Win 95/98 and IE 4/5.

It might be worth exploring a little deeper if you know more about it.

If a file or folder is Hidden and "Show all files" is turned on it is possible that it will still not display in the File/Open/Save As dialog box in Office 97.

The opposite is true too. If "Do not show hidden files" is turned on then you may still be able to see them in File/Open/Save As but not anywhere else.

In a nutshell there is a Registry key that isn't being updated properly. Active Desktop and Recycle Bin confirmation are stored in the same key and making a change to either one will update it.

    If the above still doesn
