    Computer's gone crazy

    HELP ME SOMEBODY PLEASE.

Suddenly things stopped working correctly. When I try to enter text in the Windows search box the line where you start typing, flies across the window from left to right and I can't type anything. If I try to update Norton's rescue disk, it stops on various disks.. I open IE and the page shoots to the top and the scroll bar refuses to move upwards. I have the same difficulty using RUN.

I've run all of Norton's tools including NAV 2002 and no infection or errors were detected. I've run Windows Setup and it worked perfectly but the strange things continue. I've reinstalled Windows 98SE from setup within Windows SE files on my hard disk

Even stranger, is the fact that it doesn't happen here. I can type and the scroll bar works. I've never heard or read about a situation like this and if someone can help fix this, it sure would be appreciated.

    No format suggestions, please.

    Re: Computer's gone crazy

I believe I would try updating the mouse drivers first. Every once in a while my optical mouse will go bonkers and the pointer rolls off the screen. This also happens to my parents, who have a Logitech (mine is a Microsoft Intellimouse) and at my office. They aren't Windows 98 workstations, but it could be that "bugaboo" anyway.

I apoligize for not getting back to you sooner, was here yesterday but I could not type anything, anywhere on this computer.

I did as you suggested and installed my mouseware again from the CD, now I have to get the lastest upgrade.

After the installation the problem was not fixed.. Today I went into Safe Mode, ran Nortons Disk Doctor, removed some things from the Registry that I no longer use, ran Speed Disk, unchecked some programs in MSConfig and rebooted.

I don't know what corrected the problem, but it has disappeared. It probably was the mouseware, it just didn't take effect until I had shut down.

I thank you for the suggestion. Again you people on the lounge have come to my rescue and I can stamp this, with the sweet word - FIXED.

Thanks again and may your New Year be all that you expect..

    Re: Computer's gone crazy

Sorry, I didn't update this problem sooner.
The problem is solved and the fix will be hard to believe. I did a dumb thing and had jammed the keyboard between the self it sits on.and the desk. When I pulled the drawer out and set the keyboard flat, like it was supposed to be, the problem was corrected.

    Simply wasn't it?

I was dumb for not realizing what I had done.
