Remove Quick Launch Toolbar (IE 6 SP1)

Does anyone know how I can permanently remove the quick launch toolbar on an NT4 SP6a desktop running IE 6 SP1? Is there a registry hack or something similar?

    Thanking you in advance

    Regards

Permanently? You'd have to remove Internet Explorer in its entirety, and then re-install version 5 or higher. This would only work on NT 4 or Windows 95, though, because the desktop update is integrated in all later versions of Windows. IE 5 and up do not install the desktop update, which includes those taskbar toolbars.

Also, you could switch to the 'Classic' view which disables all of those items too. The functionality will still be in the OS, but at least it won't be in your face.

Quick Launch is still an option using the Classic view in XP, if that is what you were referring to.

I'll add that to my list of Learned Things (I don't use the 'classic' view in XP). I think that it does eradicate the toolbars in all other iterations of Windows, but I like it and haven't tried it on my Win2000 systems here.

Quick Launch also exists in Win 98, Classic view.

Re: Remove Quick Launch Toolbar (IE 6 SP1)

Thanks guys for all your help so far.

I'm still struggling of sorts to solve this one. I have got a workaround, to do the following in the registry

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionPoliciesExplorer.
From the Edit menu, select New - DWORD Value.
Enter a name of ClassicShell, and press Enter.
Double-click the new value, set it to 1, and click OK.

However does anyone know exactly what functionality I will lose by adding this registry setting? Is it just Active Desktop or is it more fundamental then that?

Please note I am trying to create a custom IE6 build using IEAK 6 but want to suppress the Quick lauch toolbar.

    Regards

    John
