Dw error message

When I first boot up I always get an error message
"Dw This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."
WHAT does it mean and HOW can I correct for it or eliminate it?
Thank you very much.

Re: Dw error message

DW is a component of the Internet Explorer Error Reporting tool. Since it's causing an error itself, I think perhaps removing it would be good.

Internet Explorer 5.x (All Operating Systems)
To disable Internet Explorer Error Reporting, use the following steps:
1.
Click Start, then Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

In the list of installed programs, click Internet Explorer Error Reporting.

Click Add/Remove (in Windows 98, Windows Me, or Windows NT 4.0) or Remove (in Windows 2000).

All info I can find points to you having Kazaa installed.
And I don't really think you want that.
(See Post 177032.)

Try AdAware to get rid of it.

Re: Dw error message

Sorry for confusing everyone. Thought we had the cure for the "dw error message" but removing Kazaa and installing Adawre has NOT cured the problem. Have tried to find the Internet Explorer Error Reporting to delete that as suggested by WyllyWylly in Post # 211060, but can't seem to find it in my Add/Remove list..
Still looking for a cure.
Thanx all, bear with me.

How about taking a look at the System Configuration Utility with me? Go to Start, Run and type in MSCONFIG. Click on the tab for Win.Ini and then the "plus" to expand the Windows selection, like my attachment. See if you see anything that starts with "load=" or "run=" that looks anywhere near the DW problem. If you do, uncheck the box and reboot to see if that fixes it.

Re: Dw error message

Mark, this is the Win98 forum and the "DW.exe" file that you like to bring up is for WinXP. If someone here is getting this error message, it is NOT because of WinXP's error reporting tool!! This DW.exe is spyware and nothing else.

You may need to follow the advice from several of the spyware sites:

From Cexx (one of the best Spyware sites):
dw.exe, Movie Network.exe (Downloadware / Mediacharger / Movienetworks) - Displays lots of popup ads as you surf; Mediacharger may also function as a dialer for 1-900 #s for billing of adult movie downloads. Check for removal entries in Add/Remove Programs. Some removal instructions (may or may not work?) are here. I have had reports that the program will try to deter uninstallation by telling you that doing so will mess up your browser. It is, however, bluffing.

Here are the removal instructions from Cexx.

Re: Dw error message

Hi Gerry

There is a discussion of your problem in a Techguy Forum.
A search for "dw.exe" in Web Ferret and First Stop Web Search turned up pages of hits.
After checking several of them, using Spybot Search and Destroy seems to be a common suggestion. If you do a "search" in the Lounge for "Spybot" you should find a fair bit of information, including links for a free download.

Have a Great day!!!
Ken
