Which is slower, icons on desktop or taskbar?

Some people tell me I should have less shortcut icons in the taskbar and put them onto the desktop. Others tell me vice versa. Which way hogs more memory and/or slows your booting up? Which is the best way to go?

    Thanks.

Boy, I guess I get to answer all your posts today!!

I can't imagine that there is any difference between the icons on the desktop and the ones in the taskbar (Quick Launch). They aren't doing anything when you boot; only the items in the registry entries from your other post and the Startup group in the Start Menu are actually launching.

So, in essesnce, they're not hogging any memory - well, a miniscule amount, but nothing to be concerned about. I must have a billion icons on my desktop at home, and there's absolutely no impact on performance. That said, choose what works best for you. My scheme is to put shortcuts to frequently used programs in Quick Launch, scattering things I intend to look at and file away on the desktop - and I also trun on the desktop toolbar for quick access to everything.

    HTH,

    Thank you again, Mark!

That's my last question for the day, honest!
