It has been a while hasn't it? Good to hear from you again Mr Dawg.

My best guess for the monitor problem is that the refresh rate is too high for this monitor. Does the monitor 'click' into standby mode when this happens (usually with a flashing orange power light)? Start the computer in safe mode and check from there. Another alternative is that the driver for the old monitor or video card is incompatible with the new monitor.

As for the BIOS boot prompt, have you tried re-running the auto-detect HDD option from the BIOS menu or reloading the default settings (after making careful note of the existing settings first)? Got to be worth a shot.

    Re: WinXP

Your probably right about the monitor. I built the computer for this lady at my office using my monitor and it was working great ( that thing was flying ) after she got it home and hooked it up to her little 13" monitor is when the problem started. I told her the same thing that windows was set at to high of a resolution & refresh rate for her monitor. So she is getting a new monitor this weekend. I just thought I would ask just in case. But that little window popping up asking what boot device bugs me. It never asked me that and I restarted the computer several times. I will go into BIOS like you said and see if I need to have it auto-detect hard drive again. Thats computers for you. Never say never when it comes to Hardware &software.

New monitor , no problems. XP jumped back on deck like a spoiled brat that got it's way. Poor little old monitor has to be put down.
