Links in Tables of Contents (Office XP)

I recently upgraded to Office XP Pro from Office 2000 Pro. (The reasons are too long to list here!! ) I'm slowly getting used to the changes. It's obvious that this version of Office has a lot of bells and whistles. Most of the changes I've managed to deal with, however, one I cannot seem to figure out.

In Office 2000 and earlier, in Word if one has a Table of Contents, to go to the specific page, you'd just click on the specific page number in the Table of Contents and go straight to that page. With Word XP, I have to hold the Control key down, then click to get to the specific page. This is a nuisance if my other hand is doing something else.

What do I have to change to get back to the "old way" that I'm used to? By the way, I do my Tables of Contents using "TC" codes in the body and TOC for the table itself.

    Thanks a lot for any thoughts! <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Tools > Options > Edit tab, 3rd item in right-hand column: clear the checkbox for "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink".

I highly recommend you spend a few minutes doing through all the tabs of the Options dialog to see what the new defaults are. I found that I wanted to change most of them to get the program to work the way I wanted! (But I love the one you want to turn off. <g> At least it's optional, so we can both be happy.)

Very good advice, Jean. I've given that advice to others myself. I guess it just shows that advice is easier to give that to follow! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I thank you for your help and for reminding me of the obvious, which sometimes gets lost!
