    Spell Check (OE 6 )

Can anyone tell me how to get the spell check to work with OE6 and XP please? The system has MS Word installed and is brand new.

    Cheers, Darny

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Hi there Darny, have you setup OE? Lauch OE, go to TOOLS>OPTIONS>SPELLING and check you have ticked on both spell check and the language dictionary you want to use (US, UK, etc). While in the Options boxes, select each tag to customize OE, it has heaps of personal preferences which are great once they are set up.

    Word 97?

You need to move a file to a new location. I think I posted the information here at least once, or search google for "outlook express spelling word 97"

Re: Spell Check (OE 6 )

Thank you, yes these options have been set-up. The funny thing is that the spell check works in MS Outlook but not in Outlook Express which is the preferred default email client. Another thing is that in MS Outlook there are heaps of languages available i.e English (australian) English (canada) etc but in Outlook Express there is only one and that is English (Australian)

    Cheers, Darny

Thank you Mary, I will search google. The systems ( two brand new laptops ) have the latest MS Office installed with XP and both have the same problem where the spell checks works in Word and MS Outlook but not in Outlook Express. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Hi Mary,

I found a great site using Google http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/spellcheck.htm . I haven't tried the fix yet but it looks promising.

    Cheers, Darny

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Hi Darny, I also have MS Outlook, OE 6 and Word, but all work well relating to spell check. When you go into OE 6 > TOOLS >: OPTIONS > SPELLING there are the same language choices for spell check, the drop down menu next to Language, gives you all the variations you mention, UK, Australian, Canada & US English. Perhaps I have the most recent patch installed for version 6, maybe check that you have the latest updates from MS. XP has a direct link to MS Critical Updates..

Are you sure you have ticked on the spell check option that reads "Always check spelling before sending"? That should be working if ticked, has been around in OE for several versions.

Re: Spell Check (OE 6 )

    Hi Cyberdance,

Yes everything is definitely checked and there isn't a choice of languages in Outlook Express as there should be. This computer I'm using at the moment has a different operating system and everything works here and of course there is a choice of languages. It's only the 2 brand new laptops causing the trouble. I have been reading on the net today and there is definitely a problem for some and it means deleting the CSAPI3T1.DLL and reinstalling it from the XP CD to C:Program FileCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedProof .

Haven't done it yet as I've been out all day. Thanks for your help.

    Cheers, Darny

The file path sounds right for the .dll, but I would still try checking the machines giving trouble by logging one onto the Critical Updates site, see what that says about anything needing to be loaded for that machine. What O/S are they running?

XP OS. One is only 1 day old and the technician supposedly did everything including the updates yesterday when he installed everything and set it up. Still I'll go online and see if there is anything he missed.

Let me know how you get on Darny. Always interesting to find out what the bug was, it is certainly a painful process when everything works hunky dory on one machine and not another, particularly when brand new. Good luck.

Re: Spell Check (OE 6 )

This problem nothing to do with updates - it's related to versioning: Word/office 97 installs the file in one path, OE6 is looking for it in another. It was discovered during winxp's beta testing, but since word 97 is so old, they really couldn't do anything about it.

Re: Spell Check (OE 6 )

    Hi Cyberdance,

Both machines had the csapi3t1.dll missing. It took less than a minute to download the missing dll from http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/howto_010.html and save it in C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedProof . Spell Check now works ok. <img src=/S/cloud9.gif border=0 alt=cloud9 width=25 height=23>

Re: Spell Check (OE 6 )

Thanks for getting back with the solution Darny, always handy to know. MJ, interesting info re: Word 97 and spell check, appreciate the tip, I know lots of home users who have 97 still and are loading MSIE & OE 6, if they have a problem in this area I can point them to the answer. <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15>
