Woody's Newsletters

Can't find any other forum where this may fit better so I'll try it here.

Has something happened to Woody's newsletters? I haven't received one on a couple weeks now and I subscribe to 3 of them.

Thanks.

Re: Woody's Newsletters

Hi hlewton

My last Woody's Watch missive, Dec. 18/02, contained this note:

We'll have a traditional end-of-year review out to you late
this year or early next, and our regular editorial calendar
will resume the week of January 13.

Sooo....we should be getting something this week.

Have a Great day!!!
Ken

Ken,

Thanks. I had forgotten that but I do remember reading it now that you mention it.

Re: Woody's Newsletters

Speaking of which, I just got the latest Windows XP newsletter from Woody today that has a nice article on how to customize the XP logon screen. I was gonna put a link here for those who happen not to subscribe (for shame!) to that newsletter, but I'll be darned if I can find it on the WOPR site. Can someone from Admin steer me right? The newsletter is Woody's WinXP 3.01 if that helps any. If I click on the XP tab, I get what looks like a generic page.

Speaking of Woody's nice article on how to customize the XP logon screen, he recommends (& I highly second) the use of LogonStudio (RC6) [9/4/02 - 1.8 MB ] which you can download free here now.

You can customize to any whim, concept or desire you have and it is quite easy. It stores automatically the original logon screen for switching back at anytime at the press of a button should you so choose. I have been using this prog since the original beta version without any problems whatsoever. The newsletter states that you "exit LogonStudio by clicking the 'X' button in the upper right corner of the window" but you can actually exit via the "OK" or "Cancel" options familiar to typical Windows dialogue/message boxes/windows.

There are literally thousands and thousands of logon screens available for download at this Wincustomize library and at Deviant Art's LogonXP

Re: Woody's Newsletters

May I make a suggestion, Claude? I guess I was just a little too fast in going to look, because last nite I went back to the XP page, clicked on Archives and that latest issue IS there. My suggestion however, concerns folks who just wander in off the web to WOPR.COM and see no link to the XP newsletter as there are for the others. Once inside, however, the Windows tab DOES have an XP nav tab on it. FWIW

Re: Woody's Newsletters

Couple of quick points on this. I guess I didn't follow Woody's instructions (or any other for that matter) 'cause I downloaded the thing just to see what it is, planning to go in later and try a mod or two. Well, I guess when I did my "exit" the thing got activated. When I rebooted my machine a little while ago, I had one of the authors logoff AND logon screens and it wasn't my intention to do so. No sweat though, I'll straighten it out later today.

Also, the program puts an entry in MSCONFIG Startup and I have no idea why it too would need to have a TSR running all the time, but maybe it does.

Just because it's in the Startup, does that necessarily mean it is running all the time? Check your Taskmanager to see if it is.
