    Whither the Holidays? (Outlook 2000)

I realize I don't have the latest and greatest version of Outlook to play with, but you would think that any calendaring program could display Holidays consistently. Last year, I had them displayed as two day events, and no holidays display at all this year. I tried to add them this year, only to have Outlook notify me that they are already installed. How do I get holidays to display for 2003 (and maybe later)?

Below is what Slipstick.com had to say on the subject. You'll find a link to MS where you can download 2003. This applies to earlier versions of Outlook, too.

Microsoft has released an updated list of holidays for 2003-2007, just in time for users of Outlook 2000, whose holiday list goes only through 2002. Get the download from http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.asp...17-8d4e-4963-8b
a7-d2e91d491f5e&DisplayLang=en [URL MAY BE BROKEN ACROSS LINES] and then follow the instructions provided on the web page.

Slipstick.com visitor Leo Whitman alerted us to a couple of errors in the updated holiday list:

-- December 26, 2003, claims to be both the 7th AND 8th day of Hanukkah.

-- May 5, 2005, is listed as the observed U.S. Independence Day with July 4, 2005, as the actual Independence Day.

In the past, Microsoft has published knowledgebase articles on errors in the Outlook.txt and Outlook.hol holiday date files, so perhaps one will be forthcoming to cover these and any other errors.

If you want to use this update with Outlook 98, which may have run out of holiday entries depending on just how you installed Outlook 98, locate your old Outlook.txt file, rename it, then use WinZip to extract the new Outlook.txt file from the download to the same folder. You can then import with the Tools | Options | Calendar Options | Add Holidays command.

Outlook 2002's holiday list runs through 2005, so it won't need a refresh for a few years.

That Link is not valid any more (I tried last Friday and today). The actual file was OutHol.exe, but I can't find it on MS' website. I gave up and created my own.

For those in the US, Calendar Updates may be an option.

The original link was unavailable for me too, but I found the Outhol.exe file by searching the site for Outlook using keyword "holidays". It's quite late, so I'll wait to try it in the morning to see how well it works. Thanks for the tip.

There is a 'live' link in the slipstick.com site, I downloaded the outhol.exe from it yesterday.
