    Clone Dial-Up Networking settings

My ISP has a number of different numbers available, all identical in configuration except for the actual phone number. I was able to force Windows to create a copy of my current settings as a .DUN file on my Desktop; I renamed the file and then tried to copy it back to my DUN folder. Windows will not let me copy/paste this file into the folder, and though it will run from the Desktop I cannot change any of the dialup properties. Is there a quick way to clone one setting, rename it in place, and then change the phone number as needed?

    Re: Clone Dial-Up Networking settings

Although I don't normally like to tout my own website, I have stuffed away on one of my download pages a utility called "DUN backup." I've never seen anything quite like it, so it's all I can recommend. What it does is to create a file with the INS extension, which has a cute liitle icon and is (inappropriately) labeled "Internet Settings" by Windows. I haven't tried to rename the INS file to see if the restored connection, so tread lighly until you test it. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

There is a utility called DunSharer available from Winarchives which allows the copying of a profile from one pc to another - it may do the trick.

Otherwise, if you are after the ability to use different numbers at different times of the day, a free utility called RazzNum is available from WebAttack. This is "a simple applet that sits in the system tray and automatically switches the dial-up telephone number of a selected connectoid at predetermined times."

Both sites have loads of other utilities.....

I was hoping that DunSharer was going to make life at the office easier to bear (I have lots and lots of DUN connections here)....but the site appears to be down. I found an alternate link here: http://www.filelibrary.com/Contents/Windows/112/6.html with loads of other DUN related utilities too!
