improving my ranking for Google (frontpage 2002)

I would like to improve my ranking for Google's search engin. My site is www.miltonpark.org. I would like to know where I can add key word meta tags. The search engin would use the key word Milton-Parc. We are a non profit community recreation centre in Montreal.

A quick search of this forum for "meta tag" throws up quite a few threads, including Post 92342 and Post 16941.
It may also be worth doing a quick search in the Web Design forum.

Google seems to highlight pages that contain the searched terms near one other in the page title. This sometimes leads people to put absurdly long titles on their pages... I wouldn't go that far, but you could start by putting Milton-Parc into all your page titles.

    Much more info: http://www.google.com/webmasters/

As noted in one of the many page under that URL, graphics are not indexable. I notice in your site that most references to Milton Parc are in images, and it does not appear that you have used ALT or TITLE tags with your images. (See also: <!post=Post #212567,212567>Post #212567<!/post>) This should help give the indexer the idea that Milton Parc is a central concept on your pages.

(Edited by Leif to make link live - see the quick guide)

Thank you for the help, I also found help at http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/metatags.shtml, basically what i did was to open the index page in design mode the click on file then properties and personal and added keywords and descriptions. I hope this helps someone. <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30> Richard from miltonpark.org

You may also be interested to check out SubmitCorner.com who have a easy to follow breakdown of all the tags, code generators, plus a free META tag scanner service that analyzes and comments on your web.

    Good luck!

O'Reilly Press just published "100 Google Hacks", which looks 'interesting'.

Just Google? Search engine rankings are a kind of voodoo magic and the formula for getting top results in different engines - Google included - is ever changing. If you feel like shelling out some cash (starting at $149 USD), WebPosition Gold offers some excellent tools for improving rankings, generates targeted META tags and more, and can be run on a schedule to maintain your position(s).
