    Compact Databse (Access 97)

I compact the databse on a weekly basis. This week I am receiving the "Not Responding" message in the Task Manager (referring to Access of course). Attempted the function several times. Would this be something related to the database and that it cannot compact or would it be the machine itself?

It depends on the size of your database, the state of your PC, and lots of other things. You might try importing all of the objects from your database into a new empty database. If that works OK, then your existing database is probably OK, and you have a PC, OS, or some other kind of problem. On the other hand, if you get errors doing the import, your database may be corrupt and need repairing.

It's also possible that your database has gotten large enough so that you can't compact it, at least not on your machine.
