    Conflict I/O Port 3F8

Did a clean install - sorta successfully - OS seems to work, but this error message occurs on start-up - can hit F1 and go on into Win98, or Del to go into Setup. Seems to have affected the com ports as no dial-up works, no modum is found etc. Please help!!

You need to open Control Panel, System, then Device Manager. 3F8 is normally used by Com Port 1 so you've evidently got a conflict in there somewhere. Maybe the troubleshooter will help you change something to eliminate the conflict.

    Big Al,

Did as you suggested - checked the devices - all indicated they were working. Had to re-install the modum, also didn't solve the problem. It IS an interesting situation, and I sure appreciate your help. If anything further comes to mind, please let me know. Thanks.

Exactly what is the error message you get at bootup? After re-installing the modem, back in Device Manager, you HAVE expanded each of the "plusses" haven't you, just to make sure. In addition, you should highlight the Com port, printer or anything else you're curious about and select Properties just to make sure you get a "No Conflicts" message similar to my cobbled up attachment.
