    Unable to boot

My son has a 1.8Gig Dell about 1 year old operating XP home edition.

He got a blue screen saying something about dumping ram and then nothing. Reboot yielded a screeen that gave him only two choices:
    Reboot or Setup.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Re: Unable to boot

It could be corruption on the HD, or in a crucial OS file.
I suspect a re-install may be called for - I therefore also suspect it is going to be more of an XP than hardware issue and so will move this thread to the XP forum.

I would select the "setup" but if it asks to do a "Repair", select yes and follow the instructions.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Did he install something new before this happened? Hardware or Software? Try booting into safe mode !Restart and hit F8 key.

Dumping RAM? Uh Oh, wonder if a stick of memory has gone bad. Dave's right - you should try a repair first, but if it persists, better check that memory.
