    Office 2000 SR-1 vs SR-1a (Office 2000 SR-1)

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 326585 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;326585 states, "Before you install the Office 2000 SP-3 Client Update, install Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a)." About two years ago I purchased the Office 2000 SR-1 CD (labeled "SR-1 Patch") and installed it. My Office applications (About...) says I am running SR-1. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 261934 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;261934 discusses the version differences between the SR-1 and SR-1a updates and and a section titled. "How to Determine Whether SR-1 Update or SR-1a Update Is Installed on the Computer". This procedure is complex and complicated. I have ordered Office 2000 SP-3 on a CD and will install it on several computers that have Office 2000 SR-1. Apparently it is possible to have SR-1a and have the About... dialog box say SR-1. Is it absolutely necessary to have SR-1a before installing SP-3, or is SR-1 enough? Has anyone tried to install SP-3 on a system running Outlook 2000 SR-1 and not SR-1a? I am beginning to think I should just go to the MS Update site and let MS decide what I need to up date an just download it. All advice welcome.

The SR-1 CD contains SR-1a. See this thread.

You are correct, my copy of the MS Office 2000 SR-1 patch CD is SR-1a. I double checked this by searching for the .msp files on the patch CD, right clicked on the file, selected Properties (Advance). The tile for each file is "Patch SR-1a". Thanks Microsoft for making this so easy.
