Password protection and read only (Project 2000)

    Hello Everyone,

I was wondering is there anyway in Project 2000 to protect your file from others writing to it (unless they enter a password)? Similiar password protection to Excel.
I know you can password protect it from other opening, however once they open it they can then edit it (even if Iselect the Read only option on Save).
They can simply Save As and use the same name for the file- thus writing over it.

    Thanks Kindly,

    No - your choices are:
    1) save on a protected area of your network, and let the network rights take care of security.
    2) Use Project Central - which was designed with information sharing in mind.

Actually, you can do this by doing the following:

    - Go to File, Save As
    - Under Tools, Select General Options
    - You have several options here. The first is a protection password that password protects the file. You can also check the read-only checkbox to make the file read only. Using these two, however, does not prevent the file from being overwritten.

** The other option is setting a Write Reservation Password. The Write Reservation password allows users to access the file, however, does NOT allow the file to be saved with the same name UNLESS the write reservation password is provided.

    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
