Macro to change printing properties (2000/SR0)

I have a duplex printer at home. By default I have set the properties to print duplex, but often I want to change printing properties for an individual print back to single sided printing.

I recorded a macro in Word to change the printing properties but it doesn't work. I guess it's because the printing properties are "outside" the Word environment that it can't handle it, because nothing happens.

    Any solutions please?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Theo,

Manipulating printers in VBA usually requires a whole bunch of API calls.

If you do a search for the words printer api or DevMode. These may give you a starting point.

The thread that start with <post#=101866>post 101866</post#> and <post#=58637>post 58637</post#> are also a couple of good starting points as well.

I'll forewarn you, it's not going to be easy going. I've been working on some code, off and one since September to change the Colour printing settings from Word and Excel. It sort of works in Word, and doesn't work at all in Excel.

Good Luck, and come back if you get stuck, and we'll try and muddle through it together <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Unfortunately common sense isn't so common!!

In some versions of Windows, it is easy to create another "printer" with different settings that prints to the same physical printer. You then have to change the printer using the drop down list in Word's File>Print... dialog, but otherwise nothing fancy.

I can't seem to do this in Windows 2000, but when I had Windows 98 it was simply a matter of creating a new printer definition (Start>Settings>Printers>Add New Printer (wizard)).

    Thank you both!

Have created a 2nd printer, seems to be working well. (Windows XP)
