    Unable to Unprotect (Office 2000)

Our office completed the migration from Windows 98 to Windows 2000, including Office 2000. I am unable to unprotect a document that I recently created. The "Unprotect Document is grayed". There is no control box open.

The last time I saw this it was caused by setting Macro Security to High and having unsigned Macros

You may be able to get a helpful error message by switching to the Visual Basic Environment (Alt-F11), Viewing the Immediate window, and typing ActiveDocument.Unprotect

No go. I lowered the macro security and tried the Alt F11. Nothing.

Ihave the original at home saved on my Office 2000. If unprotected it there and saved it here, then protected it would that work?

Close the document and Word and restart Word to see if your security changes take effect. Once you launch the session, I believe those settings are locked in for the remainder of it.

If you used a different version of Word on Windows 98, what version was it?
