    SR2 update (Access 97)

    I have just installed Office97 then Office2000.
I found that I needed to update A97 to SR2 but I have lost SR2 from my disk in the reinstallation of Win95.

    I have a missing reference for Microsoft DAO 3.5.1, so I presume that I need SR2 ??

If I'm correct where on the Web do I get a copy of SR2 for Office97? I will need the SR2 update anyway.

To get SR-2b for Office 97, go to Office 97 Service Release 2b (SR-2b); you need to have SR1 installed (I presume you have that; otherwise, the web page for SR-2b contains a link to SR1).

You may also want to download Jet 3.51 Service Pack 3.

    Re: SR2 update (Access 97)

Thanks Hans, but I now have a bigger problem than that.
I have uninstalled Office2000 and Office97 because I thought I would start again.
However I left the ODE installed.
Now when I try to install Office 97 it goes thru all the procedures, then I restart my PC, then try to open MSAccess.exe in Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice and I get the following message:

Microsoft Access can't start because there is no licence on this machine.

Can you tell me how to overcome this problem? Do I install it to c:Office97 ( a new directory) after uninstalling both ODE and Office97?

    Hello Pat,

This can be caused by the Hatten.ttf font file not being in the location Access 97 expects, or by you not having enough rights in the Registry. See ACC2000: How to Install Access 97 and Access 2000 on the Same Computer for a description of this problem and possible solutions.

    Re: SR2 update (Access 97)

I uninstalled Access97 then reinstalled Access97, then applied the SR2 update.
I overcame the hatten.ttf problem (Microsoft Access can't start because there is no licence on this machine).
I now have the error ActiveX component can't create object when running code:
    Set dbs = CurrentDB

I have made sure that my references to DAO 3.51 have been set, they were not at some stage and I had to re-introduce the library for it. There are no missing references.

    Please help me.

    Re: SR2 update (Access 97)

This sounds like either a missing reference (but you checked that), or an incompatible DLL/OCX somewhere in your system. Is this a new system you are setting up, or is it an existing one?

The reason I ask is that if you did an install of Access 2000, then removed it, chances are very good that it didn't get completely removed and some of your A97 install may be pointing at 2000 version files rather than the 97. If it's possible, I would simply format the hard drive, reinstall Windows, and then do 97, then 2000. If it isn't possible, it becomes a big detective game.

Thanks Wendell, not being one for detective games, I just don't have that amount of patience, as well as wasting a lot of time.
I realise that this is not the forum for this but can you explain to me how to go about:
    1. format the hard drive,
    2. reinstall Windows
I realise that I will have to save the stuff I need on my c: drive then do the above.

Well, it's not for the faint of heart, and saving all your files on your C: drive is a PAIN! So some basic detective work is probably in order before you go to those lengths (I was hoping you were settng up a new PC).

First, did you install Access 2000 over Access 97, or was it installed in separate directories? If it was the former, then DLL/OCX problems are a good bet - if in separate directories, then changes are more remote. In any event, look for Access related files with a date of late 1999 or later. If you find some, then look in the registry for references to those files. Another thing to check is for references to things you don't need (or want) in Access97 - that could also bolix things up. I'll see if I can come up with some additional ideas, but you might want to look at downloading one of the tools that will clean up a PC after Office is uninstalled.

    Re: SR2 update (Access 97)

I installed A97 in the normal place and A2000 in c:Office2000, ie. in different places, as I have a need to develop in both.
Have you any preferences for the cleanup tools after Office is uninstalled. Would this tool clean up the registry?
Thanks for your help, this is so frustrating.

I don't have any personal experience with such programs - I believe there is one called Clean Sweep, or some thing similar, and I think Symantec has a program of that sort. They would of course be commercial products rather than shareware or such. Why don't you try posting in the appropriate Windows forum and see what response you get.
