Outlook one can short of a six pack? (2002/XP)

My Outlook has recently started going do-lally and sending more emails than there are in my Outbox. For example, I sent three just now but it claimed that I was sending 7 (and proceeded to do so). <img src=/S/igiveup.gif border=0 alt=igiveup width=31 height=23> Only the three I knew about showed up in either my Outbox or my sent items folder.

Is Outlook one can short of a six pack, or is it something more sinister?

Could it be something as dark and ominous as read receipts?

I don't know - could it? I thought that those showed up as messages in the outbox (usually called Read Receipt or somesuch). At least, that's what I recall them as being. Am I wrong? (Entirely possible)

    Regards,

This cropped up recently in Post 212005 which I also attributed to receipts of once sort or t'other being sent.

But, on my steam dial-up connection from home, recently when I've been collecting mail from a Tiscali account, I see 1 of 8, 1of 10, 1 of 11, going out. And the number keps getting bigger! Read receipts are set to 'never', and nothing appears in either the Outbox or Sent Items. (I've never seen Read Receipts appear in Sent Items, BTW.)

Could it be counting addressees, say, on a BCC list, and sending their messages separately?
