Outlook2k

My pc is P166 with 48MB. When I want to open Outlook2k, I have to send myself an e-mail. (by right mouse clicking on a text file that I keep on my desktop just for this reason) Once the e-mail has went out I can then open Outlook2k. I have tired to uninstall/reinstall and use the repair in Office2k, but it hangs on me. I can't seem to fix this problem. It could be something with my pc and I am going to be building a new one soon, but in the mean while does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Susan:

Maybe someone will have a better answer; this is just off the cuff. I notice that your machine has only 48MB of RAM. What happens when you try to open it? What else do you have running? Have the resource meter running while you try to start it & see if it's overloading your system. You can also use Ctrl+Alt+Del & end task on everything except Explorer, Systray, & Resource Meter.

I have tired to kill all apps, that are not needed to run, except what is needed to keep me online and open Outlook, and I still have this problem. One things that is strange about this is, sometimes I can open Outlook2k without sending myself the text file. Also this problem is only been going on for about two months now. I know that I really need more RAM, but I am not going to put any money into this pc. I am going to build myself a new one and once that is done, I will put Office 97 back on this pc and the kids will use it. I was just hoping that someone would know what I could do for it now.

ram is cheap right now - you could pop a lot in for next to nothing, the kids will love you for it. except i don't think it's a resource issue.

until you figure it out, create a shortcut to outlook with this switch:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeOUTLOOK.EXE" /select outlook:/c ipm.note

it does almost the same thing as sending the file but might be faster.

can you remember installing anything about the time it started doing this? it sounds like a conflict but i'm not sure what since it's something i've never seen before.
