    Phone connectivity (access 2k sr1)

I have a access contacts database and I want to use the stored numbers and click a button to phone out. I have used this system on a pc that has visual studio installed on it and it works fine, I use a call back function to MSComm32.ocx and hacked the code out of the visual studio sample application. I tried the application on another machine after installing the dialer application as a test. the dialler.exe vb application works fine but in access i get the error message saying that MSComm32.ocx is not licensed. I am running Windows professional 2k sr/3. This is annoying as i know the ocx works and is licensed for the dialler.exe. Is there a solution to this or another ocx freeware I can get to perform the same task. I do not need to install the whole of visual studio on to the user pc just to make this work.

    Thanks

Another option may be to use the Telephony API (TAPI). There are a number of articles on the web about it's use. It is free supplied by microsoft.

There are licenses and licenses. If you have Visual Studio on a machine, you have a license for that control. Having an executable on another machine that uses that control doesn't mean it's licensed for any other use.

    Hi Mark

This may be to basic for you, check out a2k Contact Wizard, there is sample contact record, click on phone # and click Dial button to dial out.

Have you tried RegSvr32 on the OCX should it need registering? Check your visual studio documentation to make certain you can distribute the OCX royalty free. Also there is a utility 'depends.exe' that should list the dll's that another file requires. I've not tried that on an ocx but they are a special case of a dll.
