    Linked files (word 2000)

When opening a document that has linked source files it it, I get the following error message "This document contains one or more linked to other files. Do you want to update this document with the data from the linked files? Yes or No" When I select yes the message goes away and then I can open the file and do what ever I want.

PITA, isn't it. That's Microsoft's solution to security. That prompt is the result of the Oct 16, 2002 patch (included in the Office 2000 SR-3 update). You can read about it here here and here

The changes are detailed in How the Behavior of the Word Fields Changes After You Install the Word Update

    Cheers,
