    Win95 & XP

I'm needing some help. My friend has a Compaq running 95. Uses Verizon DSL. Her husband just bought a new HP XP. I hooked up a Siemens wireless router and had a Linksys USB adapter that I added to the XP machine. They have no interest in file sharing or printer sharing. They only want to share the DSL. DSL is fine on the 95 machine, but I can't get any connection on the XP. Troubleshooting on the XP I was prompted to create a diskette (no more recovery or XP disks included with HPs) to use on the 95 computer to set the networking. When I tried to execute, it said it would only do it on a 98 machine. I've set up other networks for Cable/DSL sharing and/or file sharing and never had problems, but never went lower than 98. What do I have to do to get this to work with the 95 machine? <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29> Thanks for any help.

I don't know about file sharing between XP and Win95, but since you say that's not a concern, let's skip it. However, I also assume you've got the router setup correctly if you can already see the 'Net from the Win95 machine. A question: on the XP machine, in Properties for Local Area Connection, TCP/IP I believe you need to put your ISP's primary and secondary DNS numbers in there, even if you use DHCP for local IP addresses and gateway. What say ye? As far as I know, seeing the internet through a NAT router shouldn't be impacted by the OS of other machines plugged into that same router.

If you have the Windows 95 machine turned off can you access the router from the XP machine?
Have you turned OFF the MS FireWall?
Is the Xp machine running Home or Pro?
Is it using FAT 32 or NTFS?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
