    Sorting

I have a 2 cd set from Microsoft on resources for teachers and students. I am able to make a gradebook. If I add someone's name at the bottom of the first column, I am then able to put the name in alphabetical order by using the Sort Ascending button. No problem.
However, I modified the appearance of the gradebook to suit my needs (one page, not several--rows have different colors). The sort button no longer works. I cannot figure out what I have done to prevent the sort button from working. I have gone to the help menu but it is beyond me. Any clues or suggestions? Thank you very much.

I'm not sure what you mean by modifying the appearance. Do you stll have one name per cell, all in the same column ? Are there any blank rows ?

    Re: Sorting

Each cell in the first column (the other columns are blank) has a last name followed by a comma and then a first name. When I say that I modified the appearnce, I mean that I created a one page template to print out on 8 1/2 by 11 paper. Also, the rows have different colors. Would it help if I sent you a template where sorting works and one where sorting does not work? Just to let you know, the templates have macros (created by Microsoft).
Thank you for responding so quickly.I do appreciate it.

    Hi Alan,

If you could upload a sample of the workbook that is giving you the problem, it would help. It seems that it will be necessary to upload as a zip file, if that is possible.

Thank you again. Here it is. If you want a copy of a file where I can sort, I'll send that also.

    Alan,

Got the file. Is the problem with "Standard" worksheet or the "Modified" worksheet.

I think maybe you should uplaod the working version(if you don't mind).

    Re: Sorting

    Hi Alan,

If you enter column headings in the cells adjacent to Student (D20) it sems to work. Why it behaves the way it did, I have not figured just yet.

I am attaching the version taht seems to work. If it is not working the way you want let me know.
