    PopUp Killer

I have been a very satisfied user of PopUp Killer by xFX Jumpstart for well over a year.

However, xFX Jumpstart has discontinued it, and support of it, for several reasons as they explain on their website. I have no quarrel with them over their decision as their reasons and a possible reserection as an open source project seem reasonable. They even suggest a competitive product on their website, which, unfortunately, will not work with Netscape (hence Mozilla, I presume).

I'm wondering if Loungers might be able to suggest a few, preferably free or low cost, alternatives, along with comments.

PS: Just a reminder to all you good folks South of Canada / North of Mexico, multiply your "low cost" by at least 1.6 for an estimate of our cost up here. Eg: $30.00 US comes close to $50.00 CDN, not quite so "low cost". <img src=/S/rantoff.gif border=0 alt=rantoff width=66 height=37> <img src=/S/broke.gif border=0 alt=broke width=31 height=23>

    Have a Great day!!!

    Ken,
After trying a few progs, I have been using AdSubtract with very good results. It is very easy to use and you can individually set up sites (or lump them together) to block popups, ads, animations, Background images, Background music, referrals, cookies, Java scripts, and more. It cost me $19.95 (US) on a special offer and is well worth it.
You can check it out and get a trial download at http://www.adsubtract.com ( I edited this 3 times. I'll get it right yet)
From that land south of Canada & north of Mexico......

    Ken,

I have been using POW! from AnalogX for quite some time now and quite like it.

You have to "train" it to kill the pop-ups you want, but after it's trained, you don't need to worry about it.

To train it, you just open the POW interface and tell it to add the windows to the list, and it closes them. I can't recall the last time I had a PopUp/PopUnder window open on me.

    Best of all it's $0 USD, and even in Canadian dollars, that's affordable <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

And, if nothing else, look around AnalogX's site. They have some great little utilities. Most are <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>

    Bryan, I have to second your comments re AnalogX. He's my kind of developer <img src=/S/trophy.gif border=0 alt=trophy width=15 height=15>. His utilities are small, simple, elegant and work. And they're affordable even in our lowly <img src=/S/aussie.gif border=0 alt=aussie width=21 height=22> <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15> . Well worth a sticky beak.

Here I was going to make a comment about the AUD being better that the CAD, and look what I found from http://www.xe.net <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>

But AnalogX is top notch software.

I use and really like Guard IE . Try it for free and it's $30 to register. Besides blocking pop-ups, It can also clean out your cookies, temp internet files, and history when closing IE. And it guards against other nasty web things too.

Great link (for us Yanks!), Tim. Every time I've heard Waltzing Matilda over the years, I've had to go Googling to find out what the heck they were singing. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

There's some amusing comparisons, like NARK, and so on..... On the very first page I learned I've been pronouncing "Aussie" incorrectly also.

    Re: PopUp Killer

I agree that Ad/Subtract is an excellent popup killer as well as being an effective cookie manager too.
I highly recommend it having used it for more than two years.
The tech support is great too.

    Re: PopUp Killer

    Hi Ken
I use a freeware product called Free Surfer which is here . Seems to work OK for me - it stops pop ups and puts the address in a list. You can then add this to a personalised list instructing Disable all Popups at this tite. The latest version comes with a 'Washboard' plug in which allows personalised cleaning of Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Autocomplete entries, Typed URLs and Recent Document Folder.
    Hope this helps.
Uh oh. Just noticed it says in bold that it works with IE. Sorry

I used to use POW!, but have switched to NoAds - works with IE, Netscape, AOL and Opera... <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>.
