    'Jumpy' cursor (All versions)

I have noticed that on some notebook PCs Office apps behave strangely: while working on a file, all of a sudden the cursor jumps somewhere, and keeps on doing that every other minute, just imagine how pleasing it is to enter text or data. Has any WOWser come across this problem? Is there any fix? I have searched the KB to no avail.

Are these notebooks with touchpads built in? Some notebooks seem to have especially sensitive or poorly designed touchpads that are nearly impossible to avoid brushing accidentally. When you do, the cursor goes skating across the screen and you can easily wind up typing in the wrong place. Is that what you're talking about?

Good guess, but I can assure you this is not the case

Is there anything else unusual about the situation? Wireless mouse, vibration affecting the mouse, etc.?

I'm afraid not. As I said I saw this problem happening in more than one notebook.

But only in notebooks, never in desktop systems?

Do these notebooks have their InfraRed ports active? If so, is there anyone in the vicinity using wireless mice when this happens? If so, it may be the laptops are picking stray IR communications for others near by.

Try and disable the IR ports and see if that has any affect.

I have had this happen on a few occasions during my commute with a laptop that HAD it's IR port enabled. Needless to say, the laptop has the IR port disabled now.
