    scanning

I am perplexed. I have an hp scanner(5p)with HP Precision Scan software. I've used it for almost 4 years. Sometimes when I scan a photograph, I see the correctly scanned image in the viewer. Only the image---no problem. However, at times the viewer shows a great expanse of white and the image is at a corner of the white portion. It's as if the scanner believes that the under part of the cover is part of the image. I do not know which setting to adjust. I've tried everything. What is frustrating is that this does not occur with every photograph. Just some. What do I do. I once called Hewlett Packard and the technician had no answer. Any clues or suggestions? Thank you very much.

    Re: scanning

look over your software options for a sizing setting.

i'm not familar with the scanner or the software it uses, but on the scanners i use (visioneer and umax), i can adjust the size of the scan area. i can also crop after scanning if the image is too large.
