    uninstalling multiboot (sr1)

I installed winxp on my notebook and kept my old win2k installation. The machine now is multiboot.
Now i do not need win2k any more.
Where can i find easy instructions in how to remove wi2k and the multiboot option?

I hope this is not a stupid question , but is there a reason you kept Win2000 when you were installing Win XP? Cause if you didn't need Win2000, you could have just reformatted and done a clean install. That would be the cleanest way to accomplish the task , or you could have done an upgrade. To me if you don't want a multiboot system a clean install is always the best.

If Windows 2000 is installed in a separate partition, you could format the partition - or erase the WINNT folder that contains the Windows 2000 installation. You would also have to edit the BOOT.INI file to remove the Windows 2000 option from it. You can perform that surgery from within XP, under the System Properties in Control Panel.

Just pay attention to what installation you are targeting, have your XP CD in case you munge something up and need to repair it....and drink heavily while you do the deed. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Search the lounge for multiboot and you'll get a lot of good advice. And don't forget Microsoft's Knowledge Base.

"Where can i find easy instructions in how to remove wi2k and the multiboot option?"

Everything depends how your hard drive was partitioned. To avoid unusual configurations, as huge empty C: drive and Windows on D: drive, I would recommend to use third-party utility as Partition Magic. If it is not the option, consider to reformat your hard drive and install Windows from scratch.
You must remember, that to make your hard drive bootable there must be in the root of system partition (your drive C: ) several system files (ntdetect.com, ntldr and boot.ini). If you want to make your boot partition (when your Windows is) bootable, you must have these files on it, and entries in boot.ini must show it (see HOW TO: Edit the Boot.ini File in Windows XP for details).

There is one "easy" instruction: just remove any mention of Windows 2000 from boot.ini, or better change timeout to 0 and use it as it is. To do so, press Windows key and Pause/Break key on your keyboard simultaneously ( or right-click "My Computer" icon and from pop-up menu choose Properties, or click System icon in Control Panel), then Advanced tab, then Settings button under "Startup and Recovery" (the third one), and uncheck "Time to display list of operating systems" or set it to 0. Or click Edit button and edit boot.ini file manually, using MSKB article above.
