Re: Word Document Gibberish (XPP/Word 2002)

The first line of your file is a giveaway - "This file must be converted with BinHex 4"

I think that WinZip can handle BinHex format files, try saving the file, make sure that it has an extension of .HQX and open it with WinZip.

    Word Document Gibberish (XPP/Word 2002)

The livelier version of this discussion is here. -Mod.

I have opened thousands of Word documents without ever a problem, however today I received a document that was nothing but gibberish when I opened it. I had the sender resend it several times and the results are the same. Below is a screenshot of a 'File Conversion' dialog box with it's message, "Select the encoding that makes your document readable". I attempted a few of the offerings to no avail.

Why would this 'File Conversion' come up and what can I do to make the document readable? <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>
