    Querying Word 2000 Bug (pre-SR1)

This may be silly but does anyone know of a bug in Word 2000 whereby when you chose File->Save, or press Ctrl+S, the Forms toolbar pops up? It was happening to me all day. For some reason, my employers are running Office 2000 out of the box--w/o patches or service packs. My objects keep disappearing in Access but I suppose that's another forum.

    Thanks.

I've never heard of this happening before. Nevertheless, are you saying that Ctrl+S & the Save command are assigned to show the forms toolbar? Does it save?

Besides running an up to date virus checker, I'd see if there are any macros in the normal template (or in any other template that is in the startup folder). Press Alt+F8 & see if there is a FileSave macro in there. You can also try following the steps in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>.
    Hope this helps.

Um...it became a sequence where I had to remember to always close it with the X (in the upper right hand corner) but because old habits die hard, it kept happening a lot. There was no toolbar button or shortcut to anything having to do with form controls and design view under the File menu.

It's Windows XP Pro SP-1 with an unpatched installation of Office 2000. I was really just wondering if this was a known bug but if it's still insistent tom'w, I'll try the steps you've suggested.

    Thanks for your help.

    Phil:

I'm sorry, I got this wrong (it was late and I was tired). It's File-->Close that makes the Forms toolbar pop-up, not the Save function as I initially said. It happens when I choose to click on the X as well. Instead of closing, it seems to go into Design mode.

Ever heard of this? Hope you're well and thanks.

Here's a theory. One of your global templates was saved with the Design/Forms toolbar showing. When you launch Word by opening a document, these bar(s) don't appear because they are overridden by the document's template. When you close the document without closing Word, then they reappear.

Test: If you start Word directly from a shortcut/Start menu, do you get these toolbars?
