    xp and 2k simultaneously (xp)

is it possible to have full working installations of off2k and offxp on the same machine?
    how can i install that?
i need excel and word in both flavors on the same machine.
i did a complete install of offxp first.
then i installed off2k in another directory.
but now excelxp complains about missing object libraries when i start it.

The safest way is to create a dual-boot system with completely separate installations of Office 2000 and Office XP.

On a single-boot system, you *must* install Office 2000 first, and then Office XP in a different folder. Some parts of Office can't be separate; the will be used by both versions. You can't use Outlook 2000 then, but Word and Excel should be OK - several Loungers reported that they could run both; see the thread starting with <post#=172453>post 172453</post#>.

In your case, you'll probably have to do a complete uninstall of both versions, making sure that nothing remains in the Registry of either (a complete re-install of the machine is the best way to do that, but that may be too drastic for you). Then re-install first 2K, then XP in a different folder.

In addition to what Hans, start with the oldest version of Office first,

You can only have one version of Outlook installed. Offic won't let you you install two different versions of Outlook, it will uninstall the oldest version of Outlook if you try and install a newer version.

If you are using Access, you may run into a situation where the VBE6.dll installed with OXP will cause problems with DBs created with O2K. The problem is described in KB 304548. With the release of O2K SP3, the fix is easy to get. Before you had to call up MS and beg for their HotFix for it.
