    It won't take a second ! (excel 2000)

Hi, i need to analyse some data that involves dial in start times and duration of calls. the start time is in format hh:mm:ss, the duration is in seconds.

How do i format the cells to allow me to add these together? in a cell with a value of 2000 under a general format, when i set the format to ss it changes to show 00, in the formula bar it shows 03/10/1954 00:00:00, i have also tried a format of sssssssss but that didnt help either!

    any thoughts?

Excel keeps time as a fractional part of a day, so, for example, 12 noon is .5
However, to enter seconds, you would have to enter 0:00:nn, which is a pain.
So, if A2 has the start time, and B2 has the duration in an integer number of seconds, then
=A2+B2/86400 would be the formula for the end time. (86400 = 24*60*60) HTH --Sam
