Setting ControlSource in a subform (Access 97)

I need to set the ControlSource of an Active-X control on a subform. On a main form this works fine in the OnLoad procedure. With the control in a subform, Access won't let me do this. Nor will it let me do so from the OnLoad procedure of the parent form. Any idea how I can do this?

Some people say you shouldn't even try to have Active-X controls on a subform or subreport. Any views?

I believe that it is largely a function of the ActiveX control as to whether you can postion it on a subform and set the data source. What specific ActiveX control are you using?
