Mail received when Outlook is closed (2000 SP1)

A strange phenomena has been occuring lately. With Outlook closed, e-mail is still being received. Further, the little envelope icon that shows upon the SystemTray (XP SP1), to notify that new mail has arrived remains even after the new messages are read? Is this wierd or what? <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Its a Microsoft product so the behaviour cannot be described as strange.

When Outlook closes it doesn't really - it goes invisible to impress you with its closing speed. But it undertakes a lot of other activity. On occasion, it remains running because something will not shut down - some examples were given in <post#=219419 >post 219419 </post#>
