Big Black line during input (Word 2002 10.2627.2625)

Operating system is Win98. When inputting text into Word 2002 the text is obliterated by a big black line as you type. If you change views (from normal to outline, to print, etc) or if you use Print Preview, all the text shows up. However once you start inputting again, back comes the black line. I have checked borders/shading, paragraph, font, Edit/General options, but cannot find what is making this happen.

    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thank you

Probably the video driver is set to display 16 colours.

Word needs at least 256 colours to function properly.

To change the coulour depth, right-click on your desktop and go to "Properties > Settings".

I did notice that this particular computer was set to 16 colors, and didn't realize that was the problem. Thanks for the information Klaus.
