No. The only difference is that SP-1a does not have the Microsoft Java VM. All else is the same.

Windows XP SP 1a (Windows XP Home SP-1)

(Edited by DaveA on 04-Feb-03 10:18. )
I learned that Microsoft yesterday released Windows XP SP-1a patch, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;324722. Do I need to download this patch if I have SP-1 installed and all the other updates since it came out.

The latest "Woody's Windows XP" cautions against service pack installs, and especially what he believes is likely to ensue over the next few months.

If you have not kept up with the Windows Update fixes, I think SP-1 or 1a is something to seriouly consider. IMHO, you should never install a service pack without a complete system backup. While there have been some problems with SP-1 the vast majority of SP-1 installs have gone very smoothly. What is likely to enuse over the next several months is the courts is just as likely to stretch out to years. I would not put off keeping my system up to date waiting on a case in the US courts to be decided. Remember, the original Sun suit dragged on for two or three years before a settlement happened. While a settlement may not be likely now a prolonged process is very likely.

    nmorikaw--
This piece from C-Net news contexts SP1A, and the to be released SP1B, and the SP2 late this summer--which are basically about the MS VM and the Sun JVM being present or not.
