    Task Pane (Word 2002)

The Task Pane is really a "PAIN". Is there a way to have Word 2002 work like it did in Word 2000. Can you turn the Task Pane feature off and run it from menus and dialog boxes like before?

You can turn it off by going into view and unchecking taskpane and then you still have all the function of word 2000. The tast bar is just an added feature.

I go to View / Task Pane to turn it off. I then Select File / New and it reopens. I don't want it to open....???

    Re: Task Pane (Word 2002)

Then you need to open the new document and at the bottom of the new document task pane (if it defaults to something else hit the little black down arrow on the task pane and select the new document task pane) and at the bottom of the task pane uncheck the box next to show at startup. Hope this helps.. Let me know.

I did what you said. It still opens up the Task Pane. I don't what it anymore. I want dialog boxes instead. Getting rid of the checkmark only works when you open the application. Once i say File / New (Task Pane) opens again.

    Re: Task Pane (Word 2002)

What you could do to get around this annoying problem is to customise your menu and toolbar so that when you choose File/ New it brings up the old dialog instead of the task pane. To do this you need to right click in the toolbar area and choose customise. The command you are looking for is hiding in the AllCommands list. Simply drag it to a menu and/or toolbar, rename it to what you want and it will then give you the dialog box you are looking for. Give it a try, I have attached a copy of the customise dialog box....

    Hope this helps...

    Re: Task Pane (Word 2002)

Is there an Icon that gives me the old Clip Art Dialog box like in Word 2000.

Insert / Picture / ClipArt (opens up the Task Pane)??
