Sending Attachments (Outlook express)

I am currently using Office XP as operating system and outlook express as e-mail. When I right click on a file and use the send to mail recipient as attachment the e-mail will not send. What is the problem?

Thanks,

Sonia Scoggin

Hi, Sonia ~

Are you using Windows XP Home or Pro? Are you sure you are using 'Outlook Express'? Or Office XP's 'Outlook', which is different? Is OE set to be your default mail handler?

For starters, please see this post first and then this one, each in their entirety to see if they help.

Hello again, Sonia ~

'OE' is short for Outlook Express. I am assuming since you are using Office XP business application suite, then you are using Windows XP operating system. The links I pointed to above should do right by you.

Hi, Sonia ~

In my first reply to you there were two bold and underlined pieces of text. If you put you mouse cursor over them, you will notice it turns into a little hand - that is a link. Click then and they will direct you to help from a query in a previous post.

Note:The screenshot below you will not be able to click on as it is only a picture of the links I provided above.

Do other links in Lounge posts work, like this link to the Main Index? If not, there could be something funny going on between your browser and the Lounge... These links contain a target=_blank attribute, which should open the page in a new window without triggering a pop-up blocker. Does it work better if you right-click the link and choose Open or Open in a New Window?

Re: Sending Attachments (Outlook express)

Hi Sonia--

To send attachments in Outlook Express:
1) Remembering that attachments larger than 100K can give the recipient problems, start a new mail message.
2) Address and type.
3) Click on the Paperclip icon. This'll bring up the browse dialogue box for the file you want to attach. Click the file you want then attach.
4) Many servers limit the size to 1 MB and some people can't receive certain size attachments or their web based account might not have room, so to overcome this just break the message/attachment into smaller ones. When received, the email program will combine them into one message. On the Tools menu, click Accounts>on either Mail or News tab click Properties>Click the Advanced Tab on Properties>Check "Break Apart messages larger than XKB" and then enter the maximum file size that the server will allow.

You can also ck. out these KB's: 168974 and 291019.

Sonia ~

I think you may be confused or are uncertain how this works. The links I provided above take you directly to <post#=213315>post 213315</post#> and <post#=214480>post 214480</post#> just as clicking on these underlined post numbers will do.

If you view them in flat mode by clicking the icon in the upper right-hand corner as indicated by the screenshot below, you will be able to read the entire thread in order.

do not use break apart messages unless you know for a fact you need to - which isif you send a large one and it bounces back to you.
Too many people and some mail programs can't handle decode and combine - so the best method is to use a file transfer service and give them a url to download it.

does the email form load at all? if so, try using the keyboard shortcuts or file menu.
if it seems to send but doesn't arrive, open your mail program and press send.

if you don't even see a new mail form, you need to fix the link. first, in IE, tools | options, programs - is a mail client selected as default? Set OE as default and apply.

Frag ~

MaryJ is correct - breaking up messages is another problem more often than not. A very convenient file and transfer service would be Yahoo's Briefcase, with which I would imagine you would be familiar. It provides up to 30MB of space in addition to it being .
