Outlook Blocks *.pst Attachments (Outlook 2000 SP-3)

Hi,

I installed SP-3 after reading about the work arounds and add-ins to get past Outlook's annoying security features. I've checked out several of the "attachment unblockers" including "Outlook Attachments" and another (whose name I forget) which was profiled in WOW. However, I've noticed that the programs I've found do not deal with .pst files - Outlook's very own file storage system.

I have a large amount of e-mail on my work computer in a personal folder that I wish to transfer to my home PC. I created a couple of transfer pst files to e-mail some of the material home, but when I got home my SP-3 Outlook had blocked the attachments, and none of the unblocker programs I had could fix the settings for pst files. This is not a big deal, as I'm resending them home today with the extension changed to .doc, but I find it odd that Outlook's own special files would be blocked. Anyone know why, or if there is a program that allows .pst files to be received?

Thanks,

John DeA

Ken Slovak's Attachment Options will allow you to recognize M$ '.pst' files.

http://www.slovaktech.com/attachmentoption...DownloadEnglish
Attachment Options 1.8.1 recognizes the .PST file extension added in Office 2000 SP3 and Outlook 11. Note: this attachment type is not restricted in any version of Outlook 2002.
Hope this helps,

Hi Bruce just read your post on .pst file extensions.I have just downloaded AOsetup.exe from http://www.slovaktech.com/attachmentoption...DownloadEnglish and have been afraid to install it. Sounds like you are familiar with the program. Have you installed it with OL2000Sp3 and does it work O.K.?Does it have an uninstaller?Should I create a checkpoint in SR before installing it?With OL2000Sp3 the only options I should be interested in are Attachment option1.8.4,1.8.2,1.8.1,and 1.8.Is this so?Thanks for any help you can offer, Regards

Big Jim ~

Understand your fear of new free progz, but Ken Slovak and SlovakTech seems to have gained a worthy reputation for M$ knowledge. AO lives up to all claims. Creating a restore point is always a reasonable procedure on the side of caution.
