    removing disk partition

I have been given a laptop with Win98Se on it and someone had created a second partition so there is a C drive and a D partition - I would like to remove the partition and just go back to one local drive can someone point me in the right direction where I can get a checklist of what do to and what to do first (besides backup all of the files)-do I have to Fdisk and reinstall WIN98?thanks

    Re: removing disk partition

Most OEMs do this and your only copy of the OS CD is on this drive. Most times they are hidden.

Do you have a CD with ALL of the OS and drivers on it for THIS machine from the OEM?

What OEM is this meachine from?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: removing disk partition

I think once you're through answering Dave's questions, you should know that it'll take some third-party software to REMOVE a partition without any loss of data. So, assuming you can look at that D: drive and it doesn't contain your operating system restore files, i.e. it's user data and/or programs, you could buy a copy of Partition Magic. You would first have to MOVE everything from the D: drive to the C: drive. Once the space is empty, you can delete that partition and increase the size of the C: drive partition. CAVEAT: If programs are "installed" on that D: drive and you MOVE them to C: as required, they will no longer run until you reinstall them or use PowerQuest's utility to try to do it without a re-install. After hearing all of this, you might decide to just leave things alone <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Also note that Partition Magic will not work with some OEM HIDDEN partitions.
On some systems when one rebuilds their system with the CD provided by the OEM, this partition will be there again.
